About ME
Many people who make cakes for a living will tell you that they started baking from a very young age. While I have many memories of cooking in the kitchen each with my Mom I cannot say this is the reason I chose this career. Growing up I excelled in arts and crafts and math. I would come up with an idea and think about how to create it using whatever was lying around. I had dreamed of being an architect but didn't get the opportunity to. So I decided to study the next best thing, interior design. After going through two years of college, my heart just wasn't in studying anymore; so I decided to pursue something different.
Not having finished university, I needed to find a career path that involved the things I loved; art and crafts, math, and food. It wasn't until I took some Wilton courses at the local Michael's did I find out that I really loved baking and decorating cakes. My parents then encouraged me to attend culinary school and make something out the hobby that I had started. In 2014, I started attending Le Cordon Bleu in Los Angeles and graduated early with a degree in Patisserie and Baking in 2015. Before finishing culinary school, I was able to obtain an internship with Ron Ben-Israel in New York City.
After my internship, I returned home and worked for other bakeries, making sure to learn everything I could about the industry and building on my skills as a cake artist. I knew that someday, I wanted to be my own boss, I just didn't know exactly when. Although there is still much to learn, I that I feel that I am ready to take such an endeavor now; thus Tammy’s Atelier was established.
